Student-run operations that provide hands-on learning
Veterinary Hospital
The Purdue Veterinary Hospital serves creatures great and small, from draft horses to parakeets and everything in between. Founded in 1959, the hospital is home to more than 60 full-time veterinarians in more than 20 specialty disciplines and treats more than 20,000 cases every year.
Envision Center
The Envision Center is the perfect marriage of technology and art, helping Purdue students and faculty explore new ways of understanding complex information. In 2019, its 15th anniversary on campus, the Envision Center launched The Forge. This is a new platform that allows people to share a virtual or augmented reality experience to simultaneously look at the same data from different perspectives.
Butcher Block
Most hands-on learning experiences don’t involve getting to eat the final product. But that’s just what the Purdue Butcher Block offers students a chance to produce. Smoked braunschweiger, kielbasa, ribeye, brats — the Butcher Block offers more than 40 products and is open Wednesday through Friday every week from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Daily Bite
Food trucks are increasingly common on college campuses these days, but few have the history or record of versatility of the Daily Bite. When it opened in 2015, the staple of its menu was mac-and-cheese waffle cones with customizable toppings. It reinvents the menu a few times a year, with offerings ranging from Mexican cuisine to BBQ to Asian noodle bowls.
Griffin Corps
Griffin Corps is an organization for students enrolled in the University’s highly regarded School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The elite food service team-in-training serves at prestigious university functions, such as events at Westwood. Student members earn academic credit and are paid for hours worked.
