Entrepreneur Spotlight: Nickey Ramsey (HHS’14) is supporting women on their breastfeeding journey

The Purdue Women’s Network connects alumnae around the globe with opportunities to share their skills, knowledge, and leadership to uplift and inspire other women. In this ongoing series, we check in with Purdue alumnae who run their own businesses and are looking to connect with others.

Nickey Ramsey (HHS’14) obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. After graduating, she immediately attended the University of Cincinnati where she obtained her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders.

Once she started her professional career, she desired to expand her family, so she decided on a flexible career with Indiana’s Early Intervention Program and Preschool Language Development contract serving families throughout the Indianapolis area and rural western Indiana.

In 2018, after returning to work from maternity leave, she experienced challenges with finding proper facilities and support for lactating women in the workplace setting. This experience led her to start her company, Junobie.

Tell us about your business

Junobie is dedicated to supporting women on their breastfeeding journey. One way we do this is by providing women with eco-friendly and reusable breast milk storage bags. The Junobie bag is great for breastfeeding women and the environment by reducing overall waste from single-use plastic breast milk storage bags.

Junobie’s headquarters is based in West Lafayette, but because of a huge demand for our reusable breast milk storage bags, we have quickly gone international. We have shipped our products to Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico — and we also have distributors worldwide.

How are you navigating these uncertain times?

Thankfully, we are essential in the products that we deliver to families. The challenging part is trying to run a business while little ones are home from school and all activities and camps for the most part are closed. The priority of making sure we are running our business and efficiently caring for my family has been a learning curve.
